There are a lot of bowling leagues in south Georgia, but this one is unique.

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department sponsors a weekly bowling league for people with disabilities. They bowl a couple of games each Monday night at Bowl-A-Rama.

We talked to Gregg Barfield and Travis Grier as they prepared for a friendly grudge match.

Barfield said, "Bowling is my favorite Special Olympics sport to play." Grier said, "I got 90 last Monday, and I'm gonna see if I can get a hundred."

Rec Department Therapeutic Recreation Assistant Marie Stamps says the league is popular. "The way they like to compete against each other, they love it, they just love it," she said.

The 10-week league started a month ago. Right now, it includes bowlers who range in age from 18 to 65. Call the Recreation and Parks Department at 430-5222 for more information.
