Teachers and parents have new resources to help kids deal with major issues such as bullying, depression, and obesity. Now kids and educators have the power to make a difference. Officials with Phoebe's Network of Trust highlighted those resources at a special luncheon Wednesday.More >>
LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -
A Lee County school spent the day planting dozens of trees near their playground.
Twin Oaks Elementary received a five thousand dollar grant from the Georgia Forestry Commission.
It's part of their environmental project called "Making the Shade". They planted about 40 trees around the campus.
"It is a lot like what we do in the classroom everyday, the benefits of ht we are doing today probably wont be seen for 10 or 20 years, just like the learning that the kids see, there is a mini reward but there is a long term benefit from education so we get to put that in action by planting trees that help kids that have asthma, research shows that it helps kids that have ADHD and it also make a cleaner environment and a more esthetic pleasing environment," says Dr. Jason Miller, Twin Oakes Elementary School Principal.
Students, parents, and teachers all gave a helping hand to get the trees planted.
