ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
It's expected to be one of the coldest nights of the season for South Georgia.
Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid 20s.
While we've seen temperatures that cold this Winter, it might be quite a shock to most people given how warm it was only a few days ago.
Temperatures were actually quite pleasant right now and the sun is shining, but those clear skies are going to allow temperatures to fall off very quickly.
By Saturday morning your car might be struggling as much as you will to get going. We went to a mechanic in Albany to see what you can do to make sure that your car starts tomorrow morning.
He says that while he's seen cases of engine blocks giving out right here in South Georgia that it doesn't have to happen to you if you took some precautions before the season started.
Tom Gieryic of Gieryic's Dawson Road Automotive Repair said, "when wintertime is coming in whoever your repair shop is just have them do a quick test on the cooling system to see what you're...the big then there is the freeze point. I mean antifreeze does more than protect from freezing there's a lot of other things it does but the biggest danger I guess is freezing and splitting the block or doing major, major engine damage."
Gieryic says that one thing that you can do before the night really gets cold is to make sure that you're batteries are in good shape.
The coldest night of the season so far in Albany was the 26 degrees back on November 25th.
