WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

Starting next week, Georgia cotton farmers will vote on whether to continue funding the The Georgia Cotton Commission.

Two-thirds of the producers who vote must vote for a per-bale assessment for it to continue.

Supporters say the Commission is vital for research, promotion, and education of cotton and Georgia's cotton crop wouldn't be the same without it.

"We wouldn't have the yields and production that we have now with cotton in Georgia. I think it's a must that we reaffirm the cotton commission every time it comes around," said cotton producer Ronnie Lee.

The vote will take place from February 4th to March 5th.

The Commission has been in service since 1965 and has to be reaffirmed every three years.
