Bainbridge College hosts Career Expo

While the unemployment statistics may look promising, how is it for those on the front lines?

"This looks like one of the bigger crowds that we've had as far as the employers coming and wanting people to fill out applications. We hope it's a turn in the job market. It looks promising anyway," said SWGA Employer Committee Chair Marjorie Mayfield.

Hundreds of jobseekers flocked to the Kirbo Center at Bainbridge College Thursday to start, continue, or change their career.

"It's kind of a win-win for the employer and the jobseeker. Where else can you go to have 50 to 100 companies in one room. So as a jobseeker you have access to all of these employers here," said Career Expo Coordinator Mel Wages.

"We are looking for good employees. Looking for other clients that need good employees. And other companies that need someone to help them with their payroll," said Ambassador Staffing Coordinator Georgia Battles.

And the jobseekers we spoke with were optimistic.

"It's been pretty good. I got a lot of potential jobs in there that I'm going to fill out applications for, turn them in, and hope for the best," said Jobseeker Brent Enfinger

Enfinger says meeting the employers in person can give people like him a leg up. "It was nice because they were very up front with you. Looked you in the eye and were able to tell you exactly why they were here, what they offered and it was very informative."

The Department of Labor was also offering free jobseeker resources today including resume and interviewing tips.

Southwest Georgia Technical College will host their annual job fair February 21st.
