ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Police encourage you not to leave valuables in your car.
One officer didn't follow that advice, but he did catch the man accused of breaking into his vehicle.
Albany Police say about 5:30 Wednesday afternoon, 59 year old Jerome Keith smashed a window of a locked Chevrolet Tahoe in the 300 block of West Residence Avenue and grabbed a computer case with a laptop and i-pad inside.
That vehicle belonged to an Albany Dougherty Drug Unit agent.
He circled the block and spotted Keith with the case behind the Salvation Army.
Two other cars were also broken into in the parking lot of PT Gym on Dawson Road.
Purses were stolen out of both cars.
"Lock up the valuables." said Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks. ?|"Take them out of the car before you get to your destination. If you know you are going to be parking in a parking lot or somewhere where people may be wandering and looking into cars, try to put all those things away before you get to your destination."
Police say more crooks are breaking into cars instead of just looking for unlocked cars.
They urge you to park in well-lighted areas and remove valuables from car.
