Storms knocked down trees throughout south Georgia tonight.
A large old oak tree was part of the tree canopy on historic West 3rd Avenue fell across the road in the 600 block, blocking traffic. Police diverted traffic until a crew came to remove the tree.
Another large tree fell in northwest Albany. A tree clipped a house in the 1300 block of Stuart Avenue. It didn't cause any major damage to the home, but it did leave quite a mess in the yard.
Most of south Georgia was pounded with torrential rain as the storm system blew through. That led to some minor flooding. The intersection of Highland Avenue and Slappey Boulevard in Albany was covered with high water shortly after the worst of the storm. We haven't heard of any serious flood damage.
A South Albany home lost electricity when a dead tree fell across a power line. A pine tree brought down the line behind 521 Louis Avenue just before 7 p.m.
Homeowner Johnny Alexander says the power lines arced, showing fire and smoke at the roof. Thankfully... the home did not catch fire.
Firefighters stood by until Water Gas and Light linemen showed up to take care of the power line.
