VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A former Valdosta State University student is in federal court today in Valdosta after he was expelled from the school six years ago for protesting the building of a parking garage.

Six years later and a University of Baltimore law school student, Hayden Barnes is back in Valdosta for a civil rights lawsuit.

It's against former VSU President Ronald Zaccari who expelled Barnes in 2007. The trial will determine if Zaccari's decision to expel Barnes was reasonable and if not the jury will determine if Barnes will recover damages.

The prosecution hopes to have a verdict by tomorrow.
