ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -

Last week Darton State College faculty members from the nursing department led a group of nursing students to the State Capitol for the Georgia Nurses Association (GNA) Legislative Day on January 24.

Michele Miller and Lisa Lowe, both Darton nursing instructors, along with 61 students from Darton's main campus and Thomasville campus, joined more than 1,000 nurses and students from around the state in Atlanta. GNA's Legislative Day is an annual event that provides members, nursing students and other RNs from across the state the opportunity to meet with and educate their legislators.

The students and faculty had the opportunity to meet Representative Ed Rynders, R-Albany, District 152. Representative Rynders invited the group to the floor of the house, where he explained the process of how legislation is passed.

Since 1966, Darton State College has been a leader in providing quality educational opportunities and services to Southwest Georgia. Darton offers a variety of programs, including a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 87 associate degrees, 36 certificate programs, and 40+ online programs.

Today, Darton is home to more than 6,000 students with over 155 international students from 40 countries. Darton State College, a public institution, is part of the University System of Georgia and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
