ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County and the city of Albany are honored for supporting a local museum.

Thronateeska Heritage Center Director Tommy Gregors presented the Business and Corporation category award from the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries to the county commission today.

Thronateeska is a member of that organization that represents museums across the state.

Each year, they recognize museum professionals and organizations that contribute to museums.  Thronateeska nominated the city and County as the corporate supporter of the year.

"Since 1994, for the special purpose of local option sales tax referendum, Thronateeska has benefiting by receiving over 8 million dollars in splost funds to improve our facilities and continue to grow," says Tommy Gregors, Thronateeska Heritage Foundation Exec. Director.

The city of Albany also won the award. Gregors will present them with their plaque at their next meeting.
