ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Two organizations put their resources together to fight hunger.

The Albany Area Arts Council and the SOWGA Council on Aging's Meals on Wheels program sponsored the 2nd annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.

People who bought a $20 ticket were able to pick out a bowl made by hand here in South Georgia and enjoy lunch.

The empty bowl serves as reminders that hunger is a problem here.

"What happens when they come in, they select a bowl, and they get to take that bowl home, and those are homemade bowls from local artist around the area, and the bowls are symbolic of all the empty bowls in our community," says Carol Hetzler, Albany Area Arts Council Executive Director.

A portion of the proceeds goes to the Meals on Wheels program which delivers meals to homebound seniors.
