ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The Anchorage dedicated and raised a new United States flag donated by the American Legion Post 30 of Albany, Monday morning.
The Anchorage has a 60' flag pole on site, a remnant of the days when the facility was a Nike Missile Base. The 10' x 15' flag cost $150, and will fit the tall flag pole more proportionately and be more noticeable than the small flag it replaced.
"Recovery involves personal devotion to God and getting outside of one's self by giving back to society. This flag will serve as inspiration to service - a reminder of our great nation, the many who have given so much to make it so, and the need for each of us to give back," said Anchorage Director Keith Gaines. "We greatly appreciate Mr. Marvin Mixon and Post 30!"
The Anchorage has operated since 1953 as a Christian residential ministry to persons seeking to live free of alcohol and drugs in their lives. It currently serves 56 men from all over Georgia and beyond.
Phase I of its ministry lasts four months and is provided free of charge except for a $40 admission processing fee, thanks to the wonderful generosity of its faithful supporters.
