ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Denver Hooten, Dougherty County Tax Director, presented an update the County Commission on HB 386 Tax Reform Legislation Monday morning.

The Motor Vehicle Tax Reform, which becomes effective March 1, requires that a one-time tax be paid on motor vehicles that are titled after that date.

Purchasers who buy from dealerships probably won't notice the difference at first. Since they no longer have to pay sales tax, the sales tax savings will be about the same as the cost of the new title ad valorem tax.

The 6% is based upon the value of the vehicle, so it's going to be a real shock because some  are going to have to pay more out of pocket especially owner to owner instead of dealership to individual.

If you purchased a vehicle in Georgia between January first of 2012 to March first of this year, you have the option to opt in and pay this one-time fee.

Other business being discussed Monday, was a recommendation to purchase a 2013 Dodge Police Interceptor for Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, from Akins Ford in Winder,  for  $23,501.00.

Also, Tommy Gregors presented to the board the Georgia Association of Museum and Galleries the Business/Corporation category award.

There is an application for retail alcohol beverage license for sale of beer and wine from Richard Michael Rogers.
