ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Coon hunters and their dogs were out hunting out late Saturday night, hoping to bring home the grand prize.

For the past 25 years, UKC has hosted it's Winter Classic Coon hunting competition right here in Albany, but after they moved to Mississippi, many hunters searched for a different registry to host the event. Friday and Saturday night, the American Kennel Club hosted it's first annual coon hunting competition and hunters say, they're glad a competition is back in southwest Georgia.

"People take it serious, I mean it's real serious and it's real interesting. It's a lot different than any other type of hunting that you do and I've been doing it since I was a baby," says hunter Clayton Davis.

The top four dogs and their owners will compete in a final hunt around 3 o'clock Saturday night for the $1,000 cash prize.
