DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

At a time when most people are just finishing college, 22-year old Hunter is preparing to serve his country overseas.

Only a few months after completing basic training Hunter is getting ready to part ways with his family for his first deployment.

The 97 soldiers headed to Afghanistan with him will now become his "battle buddies" and his extended family.

He's one of the youngest soldiers being deployed and although it's his first go around he's eager to do his part.

"I'm just looking forward to not being a private anymore gaining some experience from all the soldiers that have been over there before so yea I just want to move up in the army," says William Hunter, Private First Class.

Hunter says although he will be away from his family for a while, he's glad that there is technology like skype to allow him to still see them while he's gone.
