ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Coon hunters from all over the southeast are making Albany their home this weekend.
The first American Kennel Club Southern Heritage Hunt and Show starts Friday night and hunters and their coon dogs say they're are ready to get out in the woods.
After 25 years in Albany, the UKC Winter Classic coon hunt moved to Mississippi.
But many hunters decided to come back to Albany rather than go to that bigger hunt.
Now that AKC has taken over, organizers say the money raised will go directly to the Exchange Club.
"Everything that happens here goes to the Exchange Club prevention of child abuse so in the long run it'll be better for the exchange club of Albany and the prevention of child abuse," says AKC Field Representative Jimmy Phillips.
Hunters will meet at the Fair Grounds at 7 Friday night and then head out to the different areas shortly after.
