LAKE PARK, GA (WALB) -

We had icy winter in north Georgia, but it snowed in south Georgia today - at least at one elementary school.

For many children at Lake Park Elementary School in Lowndes County, today was their first time seeing snow. School officials challenged the children to read 10,000 biography books in four months. And if they did, they got a snow day. The students read an extra 150 biographies and today they got to have snow ball fights in nearly 5,000 pounds of snow.

"We got to throw snowballs at the teacher," said 6-year-old, Riley Klein.

"And I got to throw snowballs at my mama and the teachers," said 5-year-old, Tyler Fletcher.

The snow day was funded through fundraisers and PTO funds. The Principal says the day was so successful she's going to bring back the challenge next year.
