VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A different kind of apple showed up on the desks of some Valdosta teachers today. 24 teachers started training to use Apple iPads in their classrooms.

The teachers were awarded the iPads after entering in an essay contest. Valdosta City Schools will provide every winning teacher with enough iPads to give to their students.

Over the next month, 500 iPads along with the accessories and resources will be given to Valdosta students. This new technology will help students with projects, assessments, research, and much more.

"Everybody doesn't get this opportunity, and I think it's a great opportunity that we Valdosta City School System you know have. And the opportunity as an educator, it has really empowered me, and it will empower me in my teaching," said 7th grade Teacher, Reginald Rainge.

The iPads were funded through the Race to the Top grant.
