SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

The Sylvester police department is welcoming their newest officer to the staff.

A new police dog joined the narcotics department 2 months ago after their long time police dog retired.

2-year-old German Sheppard, Bieko was shipped in from Holland and is fully trained to seek and find some of the area's worst drugs.

But the narcotics department says he is qualified to do much more.

"He's jammed up on narcotics but he is also used for tracking. If we have a criminal that runs from us, he can also track the criminal to where he went," says his handler Kevin Griffith.

The department paid $8,500 for Bieko; an investment the department says is well worth the price.
