ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dozens of coon hunters are already camped out in Albany, ready for this week's other big hunting event.

The first American Kennel Club Southern Heritage Hunt and Show starts Friday,  but dozens of hunters from around the nation are already camping at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds.

After 25 years in Albany, the UKC WInter Classic coon hunt relocated to Mississippi.

Richard Lambert from Chattanooga decided to return here rather than go to the bigger hunt in Mississippi.   "This areas real nice," said Lambert.  "The weathers nice and the people are nice. We'll have to wait and see how many do show up, but I think there will still be quite a few come in."

Last year, the Winter Classic had 700 hunters in the competition. Organizers expect about 100 hunters to take part in the first Southern Heritage hunt.
