ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Albany City Commissioners extend a moratorium preventing new personal care homes from opening in the city.
The initial moratorium put in place in September was about to expire.
They extended it for 120 days as they try to come up with new regulations for the businesses.
The current ordinance regulating personal care homes has been in place for 20 years and commissioners say it's outdated.
"We wanted to get some more public input on what their thoughts are and what should be in the ordinance as well. We just felt like we didn't have enough input from folks in the community. This will allow us to have some engagement with people and make sure we've covered all the basis," said Commissioner Christopher Pike.
Since the moratorium started, two potential personal care home owners asked commissioners for waivers.
One told city leaders, his business was in the works before the moratorium and he's losing money because of the city.
