AFD offers Fire Safety Course

AFD Inspector Gwen Jennings AFD Inspector Gwen Jennings
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Do you have a fire extinguisher in your home? Would you know how to use it in an emergency? Albany Firefighters will teach you.

They're teaching a one-hour course on how to survive a fire at your home or workplace. You'll learn how to set up a fire escape plan and how to practice so you won't panic during a real fire.

They'll also show you how to use a fire extinguisher following the instruction word "pass."

Pull the pin," said Inspector Gwen Jennings. "Aim the nozzle. This is the nozzle. Some are long and some are short. And you squeeze the handle and sweep at the base of the fire side to side till the fire is out."

The fire safety course will be taught again tomorrow at the Government Center at 10 AM, 11 AM, and 5 PM, then again next Wednesday and Thursday at the same times.
