VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

From the City of Valdosta

Valdosta Firefighter Eddie Rodriguez was recently named the 2012 Firefighter of the Year by the Exchange Club of Valdosta.

Firefighter Rodriguez, assigned to Valdosta Fire Department (VFD) Station #2, was selected as the Firefighter of the Year due to his initiative and spirit of excellence he displays on an ongoing basis, according to Battalion Chief Frank McMillan, who nominated him for the award.

"Since joining the Valdosta Fire Department in 2008, Firefighter Rodriguez has stood out among his peers by going above and beyond to serve the department and the citizens of our community," said Valdosta Fire Chief J. D. Rice. "He is an outstanding and contributing member of our team and has a promising future with the city."

Firefighter Rodriguez, fluent in the Spanish language, has had a positive influence at the department over the years. He has taught his fellow firefighters common Spanish phrases to assist in their fire fighting duties.
