BACONTON, GA (WALB) -
A south Georgia church celebrated Martin Luther King Day by kicking off a reading challenge.
Baconton Saint James Baptist Church held "The Big Read" Monday, encouraging kids to further their education and motivate them through books.
Almost 100 kids and teens were given books appropriate for their age group, all focused around sending the message that success is possible, no matter where you come from.
"We really just wanted to give books that encourage our kids, to help them understand that whatever you dream is possible, just work hard and continue to make things happen," says Lawrence Knighton, Pastor.
Parents signed contracts committing to read with their children each day.
