ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

More than 150 volunteers in Albany used Martin Luther King Day to help others.

Georgia Power hosted events with the Second Harvest Food bank and the Flint Riverquarium. Volunteers of all ages packed 2400 boxes full of nutritious food for families in need.

And some folks helped out at the Riverquarium, cleaning out the vegetation around the blue hole.

"I feel like that's what it's all about is growing as a community and the fact that we're out here helping out, I feel like bringing the community together," said Stephan Shelton.

"It shows commitment to the community. And as an employee of Georgia Power and all Georgia Power employees, were involved in the community," said GA Power Operations Maintenance Manager Steve Green.

Every year Georgia Power uses MLK day to promote community service. Food bank leaders say the volunteers make a big difference. 1,200 boxes of food will be sent out this month. The remaining 1,200 will go out next month.
