MACON, GA (WALB) -

A Cordele woman was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Kimberly Michelle Banks is charged with using stolen identities on false federal income tax returns.

The 6 count indictment charges Banks with aggravated identity theft and wire fraud.

Federal prosecutors say she used stolen identities to prepare false tax returns which she submitted electronically to the IRS for refunds.

The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorneys Alexander R. Effendi and Justin K. Gelfand of the Justice Department's Tax Division and Michael Solis of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia.

The case was investigated with the assistance of the IRS.
