Executives at one national fast food chain are speaking out to warn customers of potential fraudulent activity.
Zaxby's Franchising Incorporated says the source is still unknown, but say suspicious malware files were found on computer systems at several locations.
And your personal information could be at risk.
If you recently used a credit or debit card at the Zaxby's in Thomasville, your bank accounts could be at risk.
"On January 11th we announced that certain licensing locations had suspicious files on their systems and it may have resulted in unauthorized access to credit/debit card information," said Zaxby's CFO Blake Bailey.
The Thomasville location is one of more than 100 in 10 different states that were affected.
Zaxby's CFO Blake Bailey says the source of the suspicious files is still unknown. "We've engaged a global data security firm and their performing forensic analysis on the entire licensing system. And they are working through that investigation right now."
Bailey says so far there have not been any specific reports of fraudulent activity, but says it's important to be proactive.
"We honor that customer relationship. That's what pays our bills. They're the ones that determine if we are successful or not."
Bailey says the corporate office is in the process of briefing each local branch on the situation. "We're trying to handle and guide them through that. Provide them with all of the necessary support that they need. We're fielding calls. They are directing calls here."
Because the malware files could have been used to export customer names and credit card numbers, Zaxby's has informed the appropriate law enforcement agencies of the potential criminal activity.
