Tift County gas station robbed, shot fired

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Three men robbed the Citgo Store at 2106 South Main Street in Tifton about 10:00 Saturday night, and fired a shot.

The clerk told Tift County investigators that a man armed with a handgun took the money from the store's cash register.

I thought he would (shoot me) if I didn't go back," said clerk Mon Dar.

One of the robbers jumped the counter got cash. All three took off running, but for no reason, one of them opened fire in the parking lot striking a truck.

"After they left the store the gunman actually fired the weapon at a vehicle leaving the store. The bullet struck the mirror on the vehicle and luckily no one was hurt. The vehicle was occupied but there were no injuries," said Major Robert Brannen with the Tift County Sheriff's Office.

In November a trio of robbers hit two Tifton convenience stores including one the week of Thanksgiving. In that case the wife of the store owner was shot for no reason. She survived.

But investigators don't suspect the crimes are linked to Saturday night's armed robbery in which they're developing leads.

"We have some information we're looking at and we're not being more specific based on what we have to work with. In the event this falls through we'll release more information...

The victim said that his cell phone, wallet containing his credit cards, debit card and driver license were also taken.
