PELHAM, GA (WALB) -

It was a note written on a chalkboard that provides some insight into why a suicidal veterinarian first euthanized her own pets.

"We were really shocked when we find out yesterday morning. I just didn't know what to think," says Pet Health Care Clinic customer Stephanie Bryant.

Dr. Edith Klein gave lethal injections to her four dogs and two cats, then killed herself at her clinic just north of Pelham.

"You see a lot of people theses days and you never know what they are going through or how they are acting from the outside so you never really know what's going on in the inside," says Bryant.

The note she wrote read, quote: "I simply could not find homes for any of my babies so they are with me."

A clinic employee found Klein and the six pets dead Monday morning.

The employee tells us Klein adopted those four dogs and two cats, because they were disabled and their owners had dropped them off to be put down.

Klein apparently couldn't bear to do that and took them in as her own pets.

When she decided to end her life, she took them with her.

And while we'll never know why Klein did the things she did, her clients say she'll always be remembered for the compassion she showed their animals.

Investigators aren't sure how long Klein's body was inside the clinic before being discovered.

Her body was taken to the crime lab in Macon this morning where an autopsy will be preformed.
