THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Technical colleges across the state are now seeking entries from grade school students for an annual manufacturing appreciation competition.

The Manufacturing Appreciation Week Design Contest is for elementary through high school students who will design placemats, posters, or T-shirts.

Each entry will be judged for creativity, quality, and the students' grasp of manufacturing by technical colleges such as Southwest Georgia Technical College.

"The purpose is really to publicize the manufacturing industry in Georgia. Manufacturing is still very vital to Georgia's economy. It still accounts for almost 10 percent of all employment in the state," said SWGTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.

The finalists in each category will receive scholarships from Governor Nathan Deal.
