With information from Ben Hill County
Ben Hill County has contracted with the National Fire Services Office to develop a five-year "Master Fire Plan" for the County.
The process will begin on Friday with a two-month professional study of fire protection county-wide. It includes a detailed examination of everything an Insurance Service Office (ISO). Inspection would examine; such as receiving and handling fire alarms, the Fire Department, and water supply.
The study will conclude by providing the Ben Hill County Commission with options and recommendations for upgrading fire protection.
Ben Hill County was last inspected by ISO on October 1, 2006 and received a split rating of 7/9. These ratings apply to properties within five road-miles of a recognized fire station.
However, there are many properties located beyond the five road-miles; which automatically gives them the highest rating of 10.
This is the equivalent of no fire protection, and the owners must pay the highest premium rates for home insurance.
The "Master Fire Plan" will become a blueprint for creating better fire protection for the citizens of Ben Hill County and help reduce their insurance costs.
