ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Olympic Speed Skater Dan Jansen, who won a Gold Medal at the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway, will be the guest speaker at the Phoebe Putney Regional Coaches Sports Symposium.

Aside from his Olympic victory, Jansen is an eight time world record holder, has 46 World Cup victories and 75 world cup medals. The same year he won Olympic gold, he established the Dan Jansen Foundation, which contributes to youth sports, educational programs and helps victims and families of those afflicted with leukemia.

Jansen has become a well-respected speaker who shares his story of tragedy and triumph, taking the audience through the four Olympics he has competed in, sharing stories from the journey and valuable lessons learned along the way.

Phoebe Orthopaedic Specialty Clinic and Sports Medicine will be hosting the second part of a Regional Coaches Sports Symposium Saturday January 12, 2013 at Phoebe Northwest from 8am to 1pm. The January Symposium is the second half of a two part event that will earn grade school coaches PLU Credit. The topics covered at Saturday's Symposium include strength and conditioning, log rolling, taping, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, proper AED use, proper stretching and concussions. Phoebe Physicians Group Physicians from Phoebe Orthopaedic Specialty Group and Phoebe Sports Medicine Physicians along with a Phoebe Certified Athletic Trainer and a clinical nurse educator will present these topics with an opportunity for coaches to ask questions.

This event is free of charge and high school and middle school teachers can receive Professional Learning Units (PLUs) through Southwest Georgia RESA at www.swresa.org <http://www.swresa.org>.
