Murder victim's mother speaks out after arrest

BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -

The mother of a Bainbridge murder victim says her family can now move forward after the capture of her son's accused killer.

22-year old Dorian Goss was arrested by U.S. Marshals this week in Dekalb County, 72 days after he was named a suspect in the murder of Ervin Flanders, Jr.

Goss is in the Decatur County Jail and Flanders' mother says she has many people to thank for it.

Viola Flanders says while nothing can replace the loss of her son, the news of Dorian Goss' capture has allowed the healing process to begin.

"I was overjoyed. My soul leaped. I was so joyful to hear such good news. The news that I had been praying for. The gift that I had asked for. I was overjoyed."

Goss was wanted in Decatur County for the October 28th murder of 27-year old Ervin Flanders, Jr.

"No one knows what a mother feels and the pain you have when one of your kids get killed that way. And not knowing where the young man who did it fled to," said Viola.

The Flanders family held a candlelight vigil on December 26th to celebrate Ervin's birthday and his life.

Viola says she thinks this could have helped with Goss' capture. "I thank the media for coming out. Taking the time to listen and follow the story up because it really was a big help also with the candlelight vigil. I thank god for that also."

Detectives say they have been working extensively with the U.S. Marshal's offices in Tallahassee, Macon, and Atlanta.

"But I just thank god for the marshals, Detective Walton, everyone who played a part in it. I just thank god for them."

But Viola says justice still needs to be served. "We're pressing our way toward healing so we can be prepared for the trial date. We're looking forward to that."

Investigators say Goss was staying at an Atlanta area hotel when the Marshals took him into custody.

Prosecutors expect to take the case to the grand jury in February.
