VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Lowndes County investigators are now treating the death of a Lowndes High School student, whose body was found on campus this morning, as a homicide.

Sheriff Chris Prine says the student's body was found inside the school's old gymnasium.

After the discovery, the school was put on lock down.

Classes resumed shortly before 1 p.m. Students tell us it was an emotional day as they learned the news.

"I was walking down the hallway to my fourth block and everybody was crying, I mean I couldn't walk two feet without seeing somebody crying," said 11th grader, Jacob Parker-Main.

Investigators are still on that scene at Lowndes High. They're not releasing victim's name until further investigation is complete.

We'll continue to follow developments.
