WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -
A South Georgia woman is dead and three children had to be taken to a hospital after a truck hit them in Worth County, Thursday night.
State Troopers say that Contessa Brown was walking in the highway when she and her three small children were hit in the 600 block of Red Rock Road around 6:30 Thursday evening.
The driver stopped after hitting the family and called 911.
Troopers are urging pedestrians to use caution while walking on Highways.
"We want to caution everyone that if you're walking down theses roads that's dark," said Trooper Darryl Benton. "Walk away from the edge of the roadway, because it is hard to see people at night, especially when it's not lighted on these county roads. We advise individuals if you're going to have to walk, please walk on the shoulder away from the roadway itself and if possible, stop if you see an oncoming vehicle to allow that vehicle to pass before you proceed."
The incident is still under investigation.
We're told the three children are okay. One suffered minor injuries. The other two were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The name of the victim hasn't been released because officials are still working to notify relatives.
Troopers also have not released the driver's name.
He is not charged right now, as the investigation continues.
