A murder case in Lowndes County the importance of background checks on gun buyers. It also shows no level of checks can prevent guns from getting into the wrong hands.
Background checks are taking longer these days because of a surge in gun sales. Workers at Backwoods Outdoors say it's been frustrating sitting on the phone for hours waiting.
Many lawmakers are demanding even tighter regulations, such as background checks for sales by people who aren't licensed gun dealers.
"That"s ones of the most difficult things this year, I've sat on that phone for an hour and twenty minutes waiting to get a response and that makes doing business very hard," said JAckie Sizemore of Backwoods Outdoors.
In December, the FBI performed a million more background checks than they did last December.
