Georgia Power gives Albany Tech a grant

Georgia Power is helping Albany Technical College fund its Science and Technology programs.

The state's largest utility gave $5000 dollars from its foundation to help the college's Telecommunications Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology and Electro-mechanical Engineering Technology programs.

Officials say the grant will help Albany Tech, Georgia Power and the state.

Dr. Anthony Parker, the President of Albany Tech said, "it's good when Georgia Power and others recognize that this is going to a part of the work force of the future."

Jay Smith of Georgia Power added, "students from this program could feed into Southern Polytech or other programs that yes support the work that we do."

Dr. Parker says Albany Tech is trying to improve its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - or STEM - programs to help attract new industries to South Georgia.
