ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany police are trying to figure out how two cemetery headstones ended up in a trash pile in a downtown Albany alley.

A work crew cleaning up around a dumpster between Pine and Flint Avenues found the headstones and notified Police.

One of the headstones is intact but is very worn. It appears to have the name Mabel Henderson, who was born in 1940 and died in 1975.

The other headstone is broken into several pieces. Under Georgia law, cemeteries and headstones are protected and not to be disturbed.
