THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A parent volunteer is out of jail on bond accused of stealing more than $20,000 from a school organization in Thomas County.

Sheriff's investigators say former Jerger Elementary PTO Treasurer Leslie Christmas wrote checks to herself and her husband Dean from the volunteer organization's bank account.

"We have subpoenaed her bank records and we are waiting to get those records in right now. There were checks that had been written to her husband that she endorsed and we believe she deposited into her husbands account and took the proceeds out," said Lt. Tim Watkins.

Investigators say Christmas was not a school system employee and only handled PTO money.

She is charged with theft by taking.
