ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard was sworn into office a year ago Wednesday, January 9th.

Mayor Hubbard says it's been an interesting, but challenging year.

At the start of 2012, she hit the ground running with her call to service and clean up initiative.  "The idea of the call to service and clean up in my opinion is an ongoing kind of thing. It's the kind of thing that we must always be mindful of, to attract new businesses."

Hubbard says the highlight of her career so far has been the demolition of the dilapidated Heritage House.

But she says more work lies ahead.  "We have accomplished some things that we targeted for our last year. But the challenge of course is the budget, it's always about the budget and how you can save money," said Hubbard.

Hubbard is already working on ways to move the city forward. Four crime forums were held last year and more are planned for 2013.

"The other thing that we looked at that we want to do is have a summit that deals with crime and how to prevent it, especially as it relates to juvenile delinquency," explained Hubbard.

She's also working on a poverty initiative and connecting more with the business community.
