Update:
The new Dougherty County interim superintendent is preparing to take over leadership of the troubled school system.
A previously divided Dougherty County school board was nearly unanimous in voting six to one to hire Dr. David "Butch" Mosely of Climax as the interim superintendent.
"I look forward to working with this board and the staff and hopefully get some things done that need doing," said Mosely.
Board members narrowed their choices to three finalists, before voting on Mosely during Wednesday's special called meeting.
"Butch is kind of like me, he's a matter of fact guy and he'll take care of business. He'll do a good job and he has my full trust," said Rev. James Bush, school board member.
He's the former superintendent in Glynn County, Vidalia and Decatur County. He also served as an interim superintendent for the Coffee, Mitchell and Carroll County school systems.
Board members say his experience as an interim made him the best candidate.
"He's done an interim position at three different school systems. And has been very successful. So he's got a lot of experience and that's what we need," said Carol Tharin, the school board chair.
"The interim role is different than a full time superintendent's role. And so we did spend a lot of time discussing each candidate, it was a very intense discussion. Everything was put out on the table. And we feel that Mr. Mosely, as you can see by the vote, was the best candidate for the job," said Robert Youngblood, school board member.
A job that entails getting the troubled school system back on track. Last month state officials called a meeting with board members about their financial problems with Title I and Race to the Top funds.
Mosely says he's aware of the issues and is excited to work with the board on moving forward.
"I do know that there are problems in some regards there and those are people problems, caused by people and they can be corrected. My style is to play up front, play by the rules. And I have a good reputation with the state department and we'll correct those kinds of things immediately," said Mosely.
Board members began searching for an interim after Dr. Joshua Murfree was released from his contract six months early in a mutual agreement with the board.
Now Mosely will guide the system as board members begin searching for a permanent superintendent.
School officials expect David Mosely to start work in a few days. He plans to stay in Albany during the week while he serves as interim superintendent.

The Dougherty County School Board went into executive session this morning about 9:15.
About 10:35 they named Dr. David Mosely to lead the system on an interim basis.
Mosely got six of seven votes. Milton 'June Bug' Griffin voted for Franklin Perry. Mosely lives in Climax and was the superintendent in Glynn County, Vidalia and Decatur County.
He also served as interim superintendent for Coffee County, Mitchell County and Carroll County school systems.
DCSS is looking to find a permanent replacement for Dr. Joshua Murfree, former superintendent.
Carol Tharin is the new school board chairman, by a four to three vote, taking over from Rev. James Bush.
