ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

There's a new wave of police Academy graduates, Tuesday night.

They won't hit the streets as officers, but they are ready to help the Albany Police Department.

Chief John Proctor honored the Citizens' Police Academy graduates at the Law Enforcement Center.

The graduates took weekly 2 hour sessions for two months.

The academy is designed to build better community relations by teaching civilians what it's like to be a cop.

One graduate told us she hopes the experience will help with her career.

"We had a lot of people come in from the community and a lot of people that work with APD come in and tell us what we need to be alerted by and how to watch our backs and how to apply everything," said Tanisha Green.

10 graduates completed the 27th session of the citizen's academy.
