Doctor and minister in State Senate runoff

Either a south Georgia doctor or a minister will be the next State Senator from District 11.

In a special election Tuesday that included six candidates, Dr. Dean Burke and Mike Keown were the top two votegetters.

Burke, a Bainbridge City Councilman and obstetrician/gynecologist, got 42.6% of the vote. Keown is a preacher and former state representative, Thomas County Commissioner, Coolidge Mayor, and Republican nominee for Congress. He finished with 37.4% of the vote.

The runoff will be held on February 5th. The winner will replace longtime Senator John Bulloch from Ochlocknee who retired last month for health reasons.
