ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
A Grady County brother and sister, charged with burning South Georgia homes to collect insurance on them for more than a decade, made their initial appearance before an Albany Federal Judge today.
Darryl Burk and his sister Shirley Burk were released on bond after making their appearance.
Prosecutors say in an indictment, the Burk's from November 1996 through January 2010 bought homes in Grady, Mitchell, Thomas, and Colquitt Counties and then burned them.
They are also charged with mail, wire, and bank fraud for using false information to obtain bank loans and declare bankruptcy on the homes, after pocketing the insurance money.
