DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

A Douglas Police Officer is accused of pulling a gun on a man while off-duty, then lying about it.

The Coffee County Grand Jury recently indicted Officer Rick Smith on two counts of perjury, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of simple assault.

Prosecutors say he stopped by Francis Bivens home July 12th, pulled a gun on him and his friend, threatened to hit Bivens, then lied about it before a judge in October when Bivins asked for a temporary protective order.

Douglas Police Chief Gary Casteloes fired Smith after an Internal Affairs investigation, but City Manager Terrell Jacobs recently reinstated him after an appeal hearing.
