VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

This Friday will be Downtown Valdosta's first First Friday event of 2013, and city officials expect a big crowd.

The Main Street Committee has hosted the gathering once a month for years, but they hope it will grow in 2013.

New alcohol permits allow customers to drink on the streets of downtown.

With huge after Christmas sales at the stores, along with good food and music, organizers say it's a great reason to go downtown.

"High school football definitely effects our First Friday's in the fall, and then after the holidays it just depends; usually in January people are bored and looking for something to do because they've been so excited and entertained during the holidays. So, hopefully we'll have a lot of people come out tomorrow night," said Amanda Peacock, Main Street Program Director.

First Friday kicks off tomorrow night at 6:30.
