ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Three quarters of a pound of marijuana and a loaded pistol were found in a South Albany mailbox Wednesday morning by a mail man. Now Albany Dougherty Drug Agents are trying to figure out where they came from.

The dope and the gun were found by the mailman about 11:20 yesterday morning inside the mail box at apartments in the 1300 block of South McKinley Street. Along with the pot and the .22 caliber pistol were 37 bullets, digital scales, and baggies, all inside a gym bag.

Investigators say they can only speculate someone was hiding the dope in the mailbox because of the New Year holiday.

"That's my thought", said A.D.D.U. Commander Major Bill Berry.  "Because we had a holiday Monday or during the holiday, and just hadn't got a chance to get it back. Or maybe it was put in that morning."

If you have any information about this marijuana or gun hidden in that mailbox, call the Albany Dougherty Drug Unit at 430-5150, You could earn a reward.
