APD responds to New Year's gun shots

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Many people often celebrate the new year with fireworks and sparklers but last night, gun shots rang in the new year.

Albany police say they urged everyone to not fire celebratory shots when the clock struck 12 but officers say they responded to numerous gunfire reports.

While officials don't have a total number of calls, they do say they're thankful they warned folks about the possible charges of opening fire in a public place.

"We did have some activity last night but also fortunately we didn't have anyone injured so I'll take that verses having the number of cases that we did have verse no one being injured," said Dave Underwood, Moultrie Police Department .

Monday night a child in Jacksonville, Florida was injured when a falling stray bullet struck him in the foot.
