LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Tanner Maxwell and Audrey McKinney are set to get married in three months. But lost in the fire that destroyed their home last Friday was her wedding dress that had just arrived a week prior. Now her sister is asking the community to help Audrey find her dream dress again.

"They have amazing strength and they have really handled this so well. So I think each day is a step in the right direction and all of these people being so generous to them has really helped lift their spirits," said Ashleigh Poppert.

The Best Western hotel where they couple is staying is hosting the event this Sunday. Women are asked to bring in their wedding gowns for Audrey to try on, but her sister says some women have been even more generous.

"We've had women wanting to donate their dresses and let her sell them and keep the proceeds to help them out for the fire. It's really been amazing, all these women, honestly. I think it's so selfless to donate your wedding dress," said Poppert.

Jerry Evans, the owner of the hotel, is also hosting a gold buying event to help the couple get back on their feet. Donors are asked to bring their unwanted gold and silver jewelry to be sold to raise money. Evans says they're also collecting money, clothing donations, gift cards, anything to help the couple.

"We're in the hospitality business and it extends further than the hotel, we're part of this community so we want to help," said Evans.

"They care a whole lot about each other and love each other like crazy so I know that they'd probably get married tomorrow if they could," said Poppert.

If you would like to help Tanner and Audrey the benefit will be this Sunday from 1-6 at the Best Western on Northlake Drive.

And the cause of that fire is still under investigation.
