ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Charges are pending against the Lee County woman who rammed a police car while texting and driving.
Police say 22-year-old Lauren Owens' Pathfinder slammed into an Albany Police car on West Broad around 2:30 Tuesday morning then careened into a parked car.
Investigators say Owens was checking her text messages when she crashed.
44-year-old Officer Garnet Lincey was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The man in the other car, 32-year-old Timmie Shelton was not injured.
Tuesday, police are reminding drivers about the texting and driving law.
"It is against the law to text and drive in the state of Georgia and this clearly shows the potential danger that could cause. If you could just wait a few seconds to either read or send a text you may save someone's life," said Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Department.
Officer Lincey is now out of the hospital.
Lauren Owens will face charges including failure to maintain a lane, texting while driving, and not having her license.
